Ongoing support from the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE)
Menahqesk/Saint John, NB
Alter Acadie, Chroma NB, and Imprint Youth are grateful for the support received from the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE). CUPE have donated $15,000 to assist in the coalition’s ongoing work against the harmful changes made to Policy 713 by Blaine Higgs. This financial contribution is split between the 3 local organizations to assist them with their work supporting Queer, Trans and Gender Diverse youth in New Brunswick.
Alter Acadie, Chroma NB, and Imprint Youth, supported by National Partner, Egale Canada, are jointly represented by a team from McCarthy Tétrault LLP led by Adam Goldenberg and Ljiljana Stanić, and by Bennett Jensen, Director of Legal at Egale Canada.
Steve Drost, CUPE NB President:
“CUPE is proud to be supporting the work of Egale, Alter Acadie, Imprint Youth, and Chroma NB. As 2SLGBTQIA+ students and workers who support them are facing harmful policies such as the changes to Policy 713 under Blaine Higgs’ government in New Brunswick, which infringes on the human rights of trans and gender diverse students. Now more than ever it is important for labour to partner with organizations supporting 2SLGBTQIA+ folks and allies. Together, with the help of coalitions such as these, we can build a fairer and safer future in solidarity.”
